A sharp and aggressive uptick in rhetoric over the last month
In yesterday’s MAGAReport, I shared an overview of the dominant narratives on the MAGA forums I monitor via some recent memes. I want to dig a little deeper on the resurgence of anti-Muslim and anti-Islam posts lately.
On a thread titled “FUCK ISLAM. DEPORT MUSLIMS” there are 120 replies. Example comments:
because islam is a death cult.
You left out pedophilia.
Barbarians that still think it’s the 8th century.
Blacks did more in Chicago in the last 72 hours
Only to other blacks = win.
And the muzzies are only killing city fags.
Base of funding and operations ? IRAN! ...Simpletons - Waaaa why is Trump defending the west he has to ignore this like other presidents WAAAAAA!

Because we are not 75 IQ subhumans and we don’t want to go to jail for the rest of our lives. These Muslims don’t understand the concept of future consequences. Another thread is titled “Muslim Reactions to the Berlin Attack. There are no actual moderate Muslims. The radical ones want to kill you and the ‘moderate’ ones just want the radicals to kill you.” Some comments:

Exactly. This is one of the few things I’ll side with muzzies on. Gays brought this all on themselves, and the more muzzies they bring in, they’ll be begging for Christians to “oppress” them.

This anti-Muslim stance is not a new one in these circles, but it has been largely overshadowed by anti-trans and general anti-immigrant sentiments for a few years. It has become a much more prominent theme in the forum over the last few months. I think this is because of Mamdani’s election in New York, which has put a well-liked and, so far, fairly successful, Muslim politician in the limelight.
It is also interesting to see intersectionality at play here in a sort of mirror image of how progressives think of it. The threads are primarily about Muslims but veer off into anti-gay and anti-black sentiments fairly quickly (and also some misogyny, just not as directly in the samples I pulled). This particular online community has a fairly narrow band of acceptable people: cis, straight, white, conservative Christian American men. They may not come out and say that explicitly, but any time someone speaks up who deviates, they are explicitly rejected.
Side note on this: Alan Ritchson, who plays Jack Reacher in the Amazon series “Reacher” (a white male power fantasy show if ever there were one) is a devout Christian and generally represents the kind of guy they like. However, he recently has gone off in public appearances about the Epstein files and Trump. This has made him an enemy of the forum. Some comments about him:

Where do I start with this fucking idiot. He is one of the people in Hollywood that sold his soul for fame. He is a big dumb guy believing everything his handlers tell him. This makes him the most useful of idiots. He is told that the grand majority of people are behind him, but he is too stupid to see iit for himself. His core audience is predominantly male white guys who are about to turn their back on him. Keep him talking…. He is too stupid to understand that he is about to be sued into oblivion because of defamation of character.
This is all to say: there is a very specific way one must thing and be in order to be part of this forum’s in-group. One step out and you are firmly rejected.
