I’m in LA to cover the protests. This is not MAGA content, but I wanted to share photos with you from the event so you can see what’s going on.
The MAGAs, including some guy on the plane next to me, think that LA is burning. They are wrong. Downtown LA, where I am currently staying, is peaceful and clean and calm. The protest got a bit spicy, but it was confined to a few blocks and was over by like 9pm.
There were a LOT of police, but the demonstration was peaceful. If a person got too confrontational or loud, the crowd would make them back-off. "Peaceful Protest" was one of the common chants.
Eventually - and I do not know why - the police declared the gathering unlawful and tried to make everyone leave. They fired flash bangs in the air and came in with horses. A few people threw water bottles, but that was it from the demonstrators.
This drove the crowd into a park that they also eventually cleared with horses and flash bangs.
There was an incident where a man threw a can at the cops and they shot him with what I think were pepper balls.

They also shot me and a group of photographers with those pepper balls, which was weird because they had not given us orders and we weren't by any demonstrators.
That all sounds very dramatic, but everything was over by like 9pm. There were a ton of cops but it was a pretty typical protest.
I’ll be back in tomorrow with more updates!
Good info and great pics. Also, this new policy of shooting at reporters is, hmmmmm, how to put it…terrifying? Reprehensible? Against democratic values? Yeah…those work.
Holy crap they shot at you?!!! Stay safe Jen ❤️
