Banning trans people from owning guns seems like a fine idea

Today, news broke that the Trump administration was looking for ways to ban trans people from owning guns. This sets up a conflict for the MAGA faithful who have been Second Amendment absolutists but who are also deeply, fully, anti-trans. How would they resolve this conflict?

Before checking in on the forums I monitor, my guess was that they would favor the gun ban because, more than anything, the MAGA movement is about punishing enemies, humiliating people, and denying them their rights.

And I was correct. There is a long discussion today on the MAGA forums I monitor and the overwhelming majority of comments are in favor of the trans gun ban.

There are two paths they are going down to defend this: (1) arguing trans people are all mentally ill and thus existing laws should prevent them from owning guns and (2) arguing that we don’t want to outright ban gun ownership but we should make it illegal for gun dealers to sell to trans people. With both of these arguments, the MAGAs are trying to get around any new gun bans and are looking for creative ways to punish trans people while still feeling they are adhering to their Second Amendment commitments.

Below, I’m sharing a few select comments that are reflective of their discussion. There is some pretty violent anti-LGBTQ language in here, which I think is important to share for context. However, there is a lot of it outside the discussion of Trump’s proposal, too; users on this forum are just ranting about how gay and trans people need to die. It’s quite shocking to see this so clearly articulated instead of it being a dogwhistle like we’ve been used it. I haven’t shared that in these excerpts, but you will get enough of it in these comments to understand.

A few select comments on trans people being mentally ill:

• It's a severe mental illness. Retarded leftists changed a definition in some psychology classification system a few years back, but they are mentally ill with a variant of schizophrenia (for the ones that aren't just degenerate fags) and that never should have been changed.

  • Being gay was considered a mental illness until political pressure from Democrats made them change it.

    • Which is also retarded. How else would you call a defective psychological problem that literally extinguishes their genetic line?

      • Wanting to sodomize another man is the definition of mental illness

• A very severe mental illness. So, existing laws can cover this.

  Transgenderism that leads to self-harm via hormones, surgery or other body modification, proves that they are a threat to themselves, and that crosses a legal line. So they can and should be involuntarily committed to a mental health facility, adjudicated mentally ill, and therefor become federally prohibited from possessing firearms. If qualified experts can determine that the patient is no longer a threat to themselves or others, they can be released but are still a federally prohibited person.

  This deals with the problem as it is. No need for specialized legislation. People crazy to the point that they are a danger to themselves or others are not fit for society. Targeting the extreme and most obvious cases removes them from society and makes it uncool, so most of the edge cases will solve themselves - ergo, the mind virus part of the movement ends.

  Make Asylums Great Again. Many are just sitting there empty.

  • Or, we just eradicate them so we don't waste tax payer money on giving these freaks more than they deserve.

  • Honestly sending them to a sanitarium far away from cities and Internet access with a lot of nature might be the most effective treatment.

And a few select comments on the gun dealer workaround:

• While I agree with the sentiment that gun rights shall not be infringed, it’s also the right of any gun store to refuse service to a tranny buying a gun. Let’s start there

  • A good start would to maybe ban trannies under 25 from buying guns.
    ︎ That or putting a GPS tracker/shocker on any tranny and give them 20,000 volts if they get within 400 feet of a Catholic/public school.
    ︎ Also attest the medical doctors who give out the estrogen and SSRI drugs to these whacked out people.

  • I'll agree to that, if you'll agree to tossing trannies into asylums until they die of old age, or 41% themselves [NOTE FROM JEN: This means to die by suicide, relying on a figure that 41% of trans people die that way.]

• …In the interest of public safety, the ATF should immediately update its regs to say any dealer who knowingly transfers a firearm to a troon loses their FFL immediately and permanently, and all inventory is seized for destruction, (the same penalty as if they were caught knowingly facilitating straw purchases).

There are some objections, not based on any recognition of trans people’s humanity, but in respect for the Second Amendment.

• People that fail to see the slippery slope here astound me. Next it’s bipolar, then depression or anxiety. Than it’ll be based of Palantir’s social credit score. And then it’ll just be a no for any have-not. Any of these bullshit mental “diagnosis” by fake doctors in psychiatry are just tools for infringing on your god-given rights, and it’s insane.

  • Exactly. You are 18 and want to cut off your dong, call yourself Susan, and own a gun...then by god this is America, knock yourself out. I wont be calling you 'ma'am', but that's my right as well. Once again, in my personal opinion this is a terrible road to go down when you want to present yourself as the party for 'freedom'. And freedom can sometimes be dangerous - its kind of the point.

• BAD IDEA. anytime the gov. gets their toe in a door, they run away with it. banning guns to "groups" and not individuals is a backdoor around the 2A. YOU will be next when they get back in power calling R's, christians, normies fucked up in the head like these troons

So there you go - we have collectively discovered the limits of MAGA’s belief in the “shall not be infringed” part of the Second Amendment. It turns out most of them are willing to trade away their absolute belief in these freedoms in exchange for the opportunity to humiliate their enemies.
