MAGAReport for 7/16/2024 - Vance for VP
Stark differences in the reaction to JD Vance in Milwaukee vs. online
Greetings from Milwaukee where the RNC kicked off yesterday!
The big news of the day was, of course, JD Vance being revealed as the Vice Presidential nominee. I talked to some attendees in the afternoon and they could not have been more excited. One guest of the convention, Thomas from South Carolina, told me “With the choice of JD Vance, Donald Trump has solidified Trumpism for the next 30 years, and we’re going to make America great!” His enthusiasm seemed to stem in large part from Vance’s age. Through drags on his cigarette, he exclaimed “All you have to know is two words: vibe shift. You’re in a new world now. The younger generation is here…We’re cooler, sexier, we still smoke cigarettes, we have better aesthetics than the left, and that’s it.”

The story on the far-right forums was quite different. In the main thread about the Vance announcement, here are a few of the top comments:
This is an absolutely awful pick. Vance called Trump America's Hitler and endorsed Hillary over him.
Trump just hasn't seemed to learn. Over and over he makes terrible picks.
The guy spewed leftist and anti trump talking points.
He said the most TDS [Trump Derangement Syndrome] shit ever.
Even PENCE didn’t say the kind of leftist shit this guy did.
Hard time believing he suddenly changed his mind.
EDIT — STILL CRAWLING OVER BROKEN GLASS TO VOTE TRUMP, BUT I WANT TO BARF RN
History is prolog. You don't suddenly change at that Hillary Clinton voting, Trump is Hitler, proven globalist piece of Schiff JD Vance's age.
The deep state has clearly won.
So yeah - the guys in the forums are not fans. There were a scattering of “eh, he’s not that bad” and “give him a chance” comments, but nothing like the full-throated, enthusiastic support I saw from people at the convention. The overall reaction was very negative, but also nothing that would change the votes of these die-hard Trump supporters.
That said, I do not think there is generally a large gap between the online commenters and conventioneers. The people here in Milwaukee are more polished and not hidden behind anonymous handles, but their views largely align with the forum users. I spoke to a dozen people yesterday about the media’s responsibility for the Trump assassination attempt, and over half told me that, one Trump wins, the media should be arrested, tried for treason, and possibly executed. (More on that in a forthcoming article)
Anyway, it was a wild day! More to come tomorrow!
