A week ago, I was contemplating how to manage the threat of post-election violence from the MAGA crowd and then how I would wind down this report to something like a monthly checkin on the remnants of the MAGA movement.
Ok, then.
Since Trump won, there’s no immediate threat of post-election violence. The forums are full of a lot of chest thumping and mockery right now. Like after the 2016 election, we’re seeing some Trump supporters push boundaries, feeling protected by their win, with “Your body, my choice” harassment and text messages to black students instructing them to report for duty as slaves.
As I’ve been describing all year, there is a yearning for violence in this crowd. For now, I think they continue to wait to see what Trump will do. If he were to carry through with his idea of a day of mass violence against immigrants, for example, these followers would gleefully participate. There is the feeling of being on the precipice right now. What Trump calls for next will determine how it goes.
I will continue to keep you all updated on the rhetoric and worrying things on these extreme forums. For now, there are no specific plans for violence or demonstration.
