MAGAReport for 4/16/2024
Today: complaints about Trump's hush money trial and FISA renewal, but no plans for violence.
The Bottom Line: Lots of talk about Trump’s trial, but no plans for organized protests or violence.
It’s going to be interesting to watch what happens around this trial. Back in 2020, I think there would have been big demonstrations. Part of that was the protest-ethos of the year and part of it was people having a lot more free time because of covid. Trump also has not been calling for demonstrations yet.
But what if he did? Would his supporters to show up en masse outside the NYC courthouse if he asked? I’m not sure. If we look at the most obvious example of pro-Trump action in J6, it was not just in support of Trump; it was against the government and institutions. In my years of monitoring, one of the defining characteristics of Trump supporters (and of Trump himself) is that they are oppositional. They don’t want much except to be in power, impede progress, and destroy things. Would a show of solidarity against the prosecution and support of Trump be enough to get a big crowd to New York if he asked for it? I’m not convinced.
