MAGAReport for 4/5/2024
Today: criticism of government policies, conspiracy theories, and debates over topics like minimum wage and immigration, with vague plans for political action without explicit plans for violence
The MAGAReport is a daily, (mostly) automated summary of discussions from the last 24 hours on pro-Trump forums.
Thanks for the feedback yesterday. I’m working on code to add in a section on TruthSocial and on Trump’s own posts. Keep an eye out next week for that!
From the .win Forums
Main topics being discussed: criticism of government policies and politicians, concerns about government control and manipulation, conspiracy theories, and discussions about the minimum wage, immigration, discrimination, faith, and trust in God.
Plans for political or violent action: The community is making plans for political action, such as promoting conservative principles and judicial appointments, as well as dismantling the administrative state. However, it is unclear if these plans are being actively pursued or are simply being discussed.
Threats against individuals or groups: A note from Jen: There are no significant threats today, but I wanted to discuss a meta issue here. I use ChatGPT to help summarize these discussions, but it’s still really important that I read them and monitor the summaries. Today, ChatGPT generated pretty scary text for this threats section. For example, this line was in the summary: “There are also discussions about potential violent actions, such as mass suicide events and using violence against transgender individuals.” This is incorrect. There was a discussion about this awful LibsOfTikTok post which, in turn, includes an upsetting discussion from reddit. There are no threats from the MAGA community (nor the trans community) about mass violence or suicide, but it’s hard for an automated tool to tease that out. There was a lot of discussion on this post, so to ChatGPT it looked like a lot of talk about violence; AI couldn’t pick up the context and incorrectly interpreted it as threats from the MAGA community. (That said, the discussion around this post was as awful and anti-trans as you might imagine.)
From Telegram
Main topics being discussed: Political opinions and beliefs, support for former President Donald Trump, criticism of current political figures and parties, conspiracy theories, and legal cases related to the 2020 election.
Threats against individuals or groups: There are no specific threats mentioned in these posts, but there is a general sentiment of opposition towards Democrats, liberal ideologies, and the media.
Plans for political or violent action: There are no explicit plans for political or violent action mentioned in these posts, but there is a strong desire for Trump to remain in power and calls for action against corrupt officials. There is also mention of supporting American-made products and opposition to globalism. From Jen: remember “globalism” and “globalist” are anti-Semitic slurs in this community.

I appreciate your explanation of ChatGPT and why you delve into the actual posts. An important caveat about relying solely on AI. The posts on X about the Planet Fitness incident are horrible. I fear for the safety of my trans friends.
