MAGAReport for 4/6/2024
Today: government control, transgender rights, healthcare challenges, political division, and conspiracy theories, with mentions of threats but no concrete plans for political or violent action.
The MAGAReport is a daily, (mostly) automated summary of discussions from the last 24 hours on pro-Trump forums.
From Jen: In yesterday’s MAGAReport, I mentioned a LibsOfTikTok brought a lot of attention to a screenshot of a not-very-popular reddit post in which a suicidal trans child contemplates committing suicide in public to draw attention to the struggle for trans rights. In an exchange of three comments, another user posts “Hmmm how about cis genocide instead. why kill ourselves when we can fight back.” It’s not a productive conversation, but it is idle talk in a private online community. I’ve put the full screenshot below for reference.
The post itself is very sad, but it’s also minor - it had a few dozen votes and a handful of comments. Then LibsOfTikTok swooped in and posted “Trans Redditors are now openly discussing committing politically motivated mass sh00tings and public s*icides.. There has been an uptick in LGBTQ t*rrorism. The modern LGBTQ movement radicalizes activists into becoming v*olent extremists.” This summary is both incorrect - there is no discussion of mass shootings in that reddit thread - and obviously a bad faith take on the discussion..not to mention they are picking on a suicidal teenager. Elon Musk also chimed in with a “!” comment on a different post sharing the screenshot of the reddit thread.
And with a day of amplification from high-profile accounts on Twitter, today we see this thread being picked up in far-right media. The headline has now become “Activists propose mass genocide of cis people to promote 'trans rights'. Alternately suggest mass suicide to make political point”. This appeared on WND, a far-right outlet, and that article has made its way back into the forums we monitor here. It’s an interesting case study into how offhanded comments from people with no power (in this case, 14 words posted by an anonymous, probably teenaged reddit user) are harvested and manipulated to fuel rage and violence on the far right.

I highly recommend a 4/4 /24 thread on X by Quince Mountain about growing up knowing his authentic self was not reflected in his physical body. It is insightful, gut wrenching, and offers a thought experiment for cis individuals. Deeply affected me.
