MAGAReport for 7/10/2024
Today: A look at some QAnon "analysis", pics from yesterday's Trump rally, and no organized plans for violence or demonstration
Sometimes I’m astonished at the ridiculousness of what I have to share with you in the MAGAReport. Today is one of those days.
Yesterday, Ivanka Trump posted this photo on Instagram. I first saw it on Twitter and had to go confirm it was really her. (I can’t really recognize people by their faces, but I was pretty sure this was not Ivanka. I was wrong - it’s her).
While much discussion around this pic has been about whether or not she had more plastic surgery, the QAnon crowd seized on this to do what they do.
Back in 2017 there was this post by Q:
(you’re not missing anything - this doesn’t make any sense and is pretty typical of Q drops)
Yesterday, this Twitter user decided that Ivanka photo was connected to this Q drop.
Whether Q is supposed to have foretold this selfie or Ivanka took the photo to reference the Q drop is not discussed. One believer replied and actually asked what it meant and the original psoter replied “Looks like a GO order in this context, or a warning. I'm not sure, it's more of an observation + connections.” Y’all, they love just making connections.
Another of those connections is that yellow as a color represents Q:
Why do the QAnon people do this? A few reasons:
The love bombing - this original “decode” was met with lots of kudos praising the author’s skill and intelligence. That kind of praise can be intoxicating.
The community - there is a lot of discussion under this original post offering new ideas and theories. Everyone is positively engaged. There is a real community of people with shared interests here, and that is fulfilling.
Feeling smart - there is a pervading sense of victimization and oppression among these Trump followers. They are looking for validation that they are smart - and often that they are smarter than others. These “discoveries” feel like puzzle solving, unique knowledge, and evidence of their intelligence.
Those good feelings can overwhelm a lot of counterarguments.
In other news, I went to Trump’s rally in Doral yesterday. More specifically, I went to the parking lot outside the rally for work on a project related to the MAGAReport. Here are a few photos from the event:
