MAGAReport for 8/7/2024 - Walz for VP
What do the MAGA forums have to say about Walz? Not much...
Yesterday, Vice President Harris announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was her pick for Vice President. This inspired celebration, hope, and some truly excellent memes on the left (do yourself a favor and when you need to cheer up, please read this post by David Hogg and the replies, a few of which I have included below to start things off joyfully)
While liberals were getting Walz-pilled over the last couple weeks, the MAGA crowd was not doing their homework on him. I gave it 24 hours to see if they could come up with some attacks that seemed solid but, so far, they have nothing.
The main line of attack is trying to blame him for the fires in the Twin Cities during the height of the 2020 George Floyd protests. They also called him “basically a Somali” because (1) there are a lot of immigrants from Somalia in MN and (2) because the right believes the new MN state flag “looks like” the flag of Somalia?
Beyond that, they are trying to make #tamponTim happen because he passed a law providing free menstrual products in all school bathrooms (something that would have made 13-year-old me weep with relief to have had). They are trying to spin stories about him “abandoning” his National Guard unit when he retired after 24 years. And as one would expect from these forums, there are always accusations of pedophilia: “I bet cash money if they searched this guy's house, they would find several hard drives filled with child porn (mostly little boys) and a few boxes of hormone blockers he likes to give to kids.”
There’s just nothing there.
What is there, beyond a new-level of truly vile misogyny and racism, is a lot of concern about the size of Harris’s rallies. This is Eau Claire, WI today (worth the click through to that linked tweet):
They are very upset that she is hosting big, high-energy events. Their current approach to dismiss this is to say “well, they were only there for the musical acts that showed up first.”
In conclusion, it’s a sad, sad struggle over in the MAGA forums these days. They are having a difficult time countering a hopeful, optimistic, energized Democratic ticket and base with their usual hate and fearmongering.
As I suspect will continue to be the case through November (barring something dramatic which I should honestly expect at this point), there are no plans for organized demonstration or violence.
